Dr. Connie Delaney leads the BMHI organization, along with an experienced team of BMI experts, including over 80 BMI faculty and 49 staff out of the Academic Health Center Information System group (AHC-IS).
Dr. Delaney is the Director of the Academic Health Center Biomedical Health Informatics office (BMHI), which is the single central entity responsible for all Biomedical Health Informatics (BMI) activities at the University of Minnesota, including the CTSI-BMI function and the Institute for Health Informatics (IHI), which is the academic home for informatics scholarship on campus.
The BMHI Director and CTSI Director report to the Academic Health Center Vice President.
The relationships among the various components of the Biomedical Health Informatics structure are detailed in Figure 1.

Advisors and Stakeholders:
- The User Advisory Committee includes local stakeholders with close partnerships on the shared UMN campus, such as Fairview Health Services, the University of Minnesota Physicians (UMPhysicians) and the Masonic Cancer Center (MCC).
- Community stakeholders (e.g., MN eHealth, Allina, HealthPartners, Park Nicollet, MN VA) have been organized into the External Partners Committee chaired by Andrew Nelson, CTSI Associate Director.
- The CTSI Internal Advisory Board provides input and direction from other University Deans, Research Leads and other senior leadership.
- The CTSI External Advisory Board provides input from other CTSA Universities (there are a total of 60 in the country: https://www.ctsacentral.org/).
- An external National Privacy Policy Review Board has been established to review policies and advise the BMI organization on privacy and security strategies through the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR).
