All initiatives listed here are designed to support research, align common resources, bridge silos and provide a one-stop-shop for researchers.
AHC IE |
Academic Health Center Information Exchange = AHC IE.
- This is a strategic initiative to create a fully automated platform of systems, applications, databases and analytical tools to support the operations of research and clinical care for all of health sciences.
- All Teams cross-UMN and fully interdisciplinary.
- Four Work Groups: Architecture and Solutions, Research Studies, Informatics and Data Governance and Security
|
| WORK GROUPS |
| Architecture and Solutions |
The team responsible for implementing the AHC IE Architecture and assessing other tools as it relates to the approved architecture. Current efforts:
- Initial proposed Architecture (fundamental architecture) developed and initial data flow from Fairview in process – see organizational chart (PDF)
- AHC IS embedded IT talent at Fairview to support this data transfer
|
| Research Studies |
This team works to identify and meet key researcher's tool and process needs.
Current efforts:
- Clinical Trials Management System (CTMS) - worked directly with UMN procurement and areas doing clinical trials to develop requirements evaluate RFP responses and product demonstrations and received approval to purchase Forte OnCore Enterprise, February 2012. CTMS plan and team in formation stage
- SIRC/CTSI-BMI - CTSI-BMHI initiated work with OVPR-SIRC alignment based on work done for CTSI application for services, scheduling system, invoicing, and project tracking
Tools already implemented:
a. caTissue
- This tool gives UMN much greater control over the full range of services needed to support tissue repository efforts.
- Several clinical studies now using caTissue at UMN to label specimens with bar-coded sticker labels, tracking the freezer locations and other data in caTissue, and recording specimen-associated data including study specific data in customized computerized data entry forms.
- Benchmarked with USCF re: move from Freezer Works to caTISSUE
b. UMN Profiles
- Ability to identify experts and collaborators who perform research and clinical investigations at the University of Minnesota is available online at ctsi.umn.edu: Quick Links section: "UMN Profiles: Find an Expert"
- Ability to find researchers at 10 other research institutions based on keyword search
- SciVal implementation at the University level in full alignment with Profiles as work continues to leverage systems to more broadly meeting needs
|
| Informatics Program |
This team understands the science behind the information and makes certain that the rules/policies and processes are in place in order to effectively use the architecture and conduct research.
a. I2b2/SHRINE
- This tool gets preparatory to research information to investigators regarding cohort identification only. This allows a PI to determine if a viable cohort exists prior to initiating research.
- Full introduction planned for Fall 2011.
- Full move production Aug.
- MOU in final development with FHS and with Recombinant.
- Technical and support details finalized before launch.
b. REDCap
- This tool is useful for small to medium sized studies to support effective data capture.
- AHC IS installed latest version 4/9 for BDAC
- BDAC does on-demand training, 20+ PIs using REDCap – a bit informal right now
- Need to create SOPs for access to the software as well as resources needed for maintenance and support.
- Need to address functional ownership and other issues related to governance with marketing launch early fall 2011.
|
| Data Governance and Security |
This team ensures that the correct legal agreements and processes are in place to facilitate effective research and use of the TIDE that meets or exceeds state and national database standards.
- Oversight for all governance related issues for tools such that common approaches are in place
- Key agreements to use the Fairview Data fully place to move data to UMN. Agreements to use the data are in process.
|
CTSI-BMI |
a. Clinical Translational Portal (CTR)
- This will be the "one stop shop" for PIs and research staff to access all study-related work and tools available to researchers
- Continual improvements based on PI and research team needs are ongoing
b. UofM Trials
